A customer in Saint Johns called in about a failing wall in the basement. At Ayers Basement Systems, we specialize in repairing or preventing walls from bowing in. Once our System Design Specialist took a look at the wall, it was save to assume it needed wall anchors.
Our wall anchors are designed to repair walls like these. The galvanized steel makes for a long-lasting solution that will prevent any further inward movement of the walls.
Note: The ground outside was filled in with dirt after the anchors were secured.
Years ago, a vehicle had run into the front of this St Johns business. Over time the brick support column in the front of the establishment began to crumble and crack. It was no longer safe and needed to be replaced. Our fantastic team reinforced the main floor with a steel support beam and some adjustable steel Smart Jacks in the basement. They then built some temporary supports around the brick column before dismantling it and building a new column back up in its place. It was not a simple job but our skilled team expertly did the work and ensured that the building was properly supported all along the way and for years to come. Our Smart Jacks in the basement will also continue to support the floor above with incredible strength for many years to come. Our Smart Jacks are a meant to be a permanent solution.
Leigh called Ayers when she noticed her basement support beams were unstable. After an inspection, our crew recommended SmartJacks to resolve this troubling problem. SmartJacks are a support system designed to stabilize and level the floor joists in a crawl space or basement. The jacks can support loads of more than 60,000 pounds. We connected these trustworthy steel support columns to a steel supplemental beam above and rested them on a sturdy base within the ground. Now, Leigh's family can feel more at ease with the stability of the basement's support system!
Power Braces are a great tool that provides immediate stabilization to a foundation but also straightens the wall over time. They are inserted without any digging - anywhere- which allows for a clean swift installation appointment.

A bowing wall can threaten a home’s entire structural integrity. Common signs of a bowing wall are horizontal cracking (seen just below the window in the before picture), stair step cracks, and walls that lean towards the top. This Clare, MI home was bowing so far inward that all 3 of those symptoms could be seen. The severity of the foundation damage would require both an internal and external solution.
Our Geo-Lock wall anchors – the external solution – are seen in the after photo, ironically from the inside of the basement. The anchors work by pulling the collapsing wall outward and back toward its original straight position. In the after photo, you can see the Geo-Lock wall plates. These are connected by steel rods to earth anchors that were placed in stronger, unharmed soil. In total, it took 4 wall anchors to pull this basement’s walls out, but it’s a small price to pay when you consider that the Geo-Lock system will continue to improve the walls conditions for years to come.
