Eliminating a Trip Hazard in Toronto, ON

A home in Toronto, Ontario had a sinking slab on the front walkway. The walkway had cracked across the middle, and one half of the slab was sinking towards the crack creating a trip hazard and causing water to pool on the walkway after heavy rain. During the winter the pooling water in this area would freeze and cause a slip hazard as well. The customer wanted to fix this so that it would no longer be a safety hazard.

The customer called Canadian Concrete Leveling to fix the problem. Our Project Manager explained to the customer that it would be a quick fix and comes with a complete warranty. The installation team used our PolyLevel® Injection System to level the walkway, eliminating the trip hazard. PolyLevel® travels through the voids underneath the concrete and expands, allowing for us to lift the slab and stabilize the substrate to prevent further settlement. They covered the crack with NexusPro® Sealant to prevent water from making its way between the slabs again. The customer now has a safe and usable walkway. They were delighted that they could have the walkway fixed at a fraction of the cost of concrete replacement.

Pooling Water in Driveway, Toronto, ON

In Toronto, Ontario, a home had a sinking driveway on one side, which, unfortunately, led to water pooling and flooding into the homeowner's porch, about to compromise their foundation's integrity, and creating a sheet of ice in the winter months. Canadian Concrete Leveling was their best option since it is quick, permanent, and affordable without replacing the driveway slabs.

Project Manager Kyle O'Brien arrived at the home to have a better look. Thankfully, the work that would have to be done can be completed in a day and take under one hour! The homeowners were thrilled to know how much it would cost and the little to no time that it would take to complete. Later that week, Installation Specialist, Mark Sealy, started to inject the lowest slabs with our high-density polyurethane called PolyLevel®. This will permanently fill the voids underneath and allow the slabs to lift to their original position. No more pooling issues at this Toronto home!

Sinking Walkway Next to Garage Foundation in Toronto, Ontario

Most homes have some sort of walkway that surrounds the house. It could be flagstone, gravel, or a more unique material, but traditionally they’re made from concrete slabs.

A customer in Toronto, Ontario, has a sinking path outside of his home. The concrete had settled towards the garage, creating a trip hazard. Water was also pooling next to the garage foundation, and the customer was worried about it seeping down.

The customer wanted the problem fixed but was growing tired of only seeing expensive and disruptive solutions. After meeting with Project Manager Joe McColl, he knew Canadian Concrete Leveling was the perfect option.

Foreman Bill McKeown started the repair by drilling dime-sized holes in the concrete surface. Through these ports he injected our high-density polyurethane system, PolyLevel®. The polymers mix when injected, expanding beneath the slab. As the concrete expands it lifts the concrete and fills any gaps below. Once Bill completed the lift, he patched the holes with fresh concrete.

The customer is delighted that he found an alternative solution to the costly options he first saw. He enjoyed watching Bill work and appreciates the honesty from Joe McColl.

Avoiding a Bad Trip in Toronto, Ontario

Winter and everything fun that comes with it is rapidly approaching. Ready we must be for this dreadful upcoming season of ice, snow, rain and sleet. For many people falling and slipping is a daily reality, and it can be a severe hazard. Injuries from concussions to broken arms and hips occur daily in every corner of the earth. Hundreds of thousands of people are injured by trips and falls every year, whether on the job or just minding their own business at home. Trips and falls are also a prevalent cause of injury lawsuits because, unfortunately, but not uncommonly, most trips, if not all, are preventable.

One customer in Toronto wasn’t going to wait for a potential liability or, worse, injuring themselves on their property. They were constantly tip-toeing around this walkway area and telling guests to avoid it due to its obvious danger. Finally, tired of living in constant fear and worried about the upcoming Winter, this customer reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling.

With over 15 years in the industry, project manager Danny Dos Santos immediately saw the apparent tripping hazards. He recommended a cost-effective long-term solution to eliminate the danger for good.

Foreman Kyle McKeown installed our PolyLevel® Injection System. Its high-density polyurethane follows the path of least resistance underneath the concrete slabs filling in all the voids and expanding, lifting and leveling the concrete as it does so. In addition, this process ensures a strong bond that keeps these significant slabs level with the surrounding concrete.

The customer can take the weight off their shoulders, knowing with confidence that their front walkway is safe for themselves, their guests and anyone who happens to visit.

Sinking Concrete Postpones New Deck Build in North York, Ontario

When you make a significant investment or repair at your home, you want to make sure everything else is in proper working order too.

A customer in North York, Ontario, was getting ready to install a new wooden deck in their backyard. The deck sits flush with the pool deck, but the pool slabs had settled away from the deck over time. This created a tripping hazard between the two materials.

The customer wanted to fix the concrete before redoing the deck, so he reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling. Project Manager Kyle O’Brien met with the customer and inspected the backyard. Kyle determined that soils had washed away from beneath the slabs. The customer wasn’t sure how we could fill the void without removing any concrete, so Kyle showed him a video demonstrating our PolyLevel® System.

As PolyLevel® is injected through dime-sized holes, it expands beneath the concrete. This process lifts the concrete while compressing any fill material below and filling any gaps. Once the repair is done, we patch the injection ports with fresh concrete. Foreman Bill McKeown worked hard repairing the concrete before showing the customer the completed work.

The customer is relieved we were able to repair the concrete before replacing the deck. He appreciates that we didn’t have to bring any heavy equipment through his backyard and enjoyed watching the process take place.
