The previously installed sump pump lacked the capacity to manage the significant volume of water accumulating around the foundation. As a result, hydrostatic pressure forced water into the basement, compromising the space.
The discoloration along the basement perimeter indicates previous water intrusion. This infiltration poses a significant risk to the integrity of the finished space, potentially damaging flooring, walls, and personal belongings. Prolonged moisture exposure can also create conditions conducive to mold growth and wood rot, compromising both structural components and indoor air quality.
The lally columns previously installed in the basement proved inadequate for supporting the floors above, resulting in noticeable sagging and sloping. This not only causes discomfort when walking on the bouncy floors but also serves as a persistent reminder of the home's structural instability. To address this issue permanently, we initiated the installation of SmartJacks.
Water infiltration occurred through the bulkhead entry point, compromising the integrity of the finished basement and placing interior walls and stored belongings at risk of moisture-related damage.
The presence of a high water table, combined with the absence of a proper moisture barrier between the soil and the structure, resulted in persistent standing water within the basement. The use of cinderblocks as support elements proved inadequate for bearing the structural loads from the floors above. Prolonged exposure to moisture in the crawl space led to biological deterioration, including mold growth and wood rot. This is visibly evidenced by the degradation of the main support beam, as shown in the accompanying photo.
Persistent water intrusion through the fieldstone foundation walls resulted in a chronically damp basement environment, placing stored items at risk of moisture damage. Temporary support posts had been installed as a long-term solution to stabilize the floors above; however, these are not engineered for permanent structural support. Over time, the inadequate load distribution caused the main support beam to deflect, leading to noticeable sagging in the floor system due to insufficient joist support.
Observe in the photo how persistent water infiltration into the basement compromised the foundation floor. This issue posed risks such as mold growth, damage to stored items, elevated humidity levels, and a burdensome cleanup process. Implementing a robust waterproofing system was crucial to ensure the basement remained dry and provided peace of mind.
Moisture accumulated in the crawl space, which led to high humidity and the insulation falling out of the joists.
