Conditions where outdoor concrete has already begun to sink is not uncommon in Ontario and is often the result of shifting, a weak soil base or erosion. It causes driveways, sidewalks, walkways, concrete steps or patio areas to become tripping hazards and can affect property value.
Ontario soil has a variety of soil types, ranging in density and load-bearing capacities. When the weight above the soil exceeds the soil below, the soil will compact and settle. Clay and silt can also cause soil to compact when it becomes dry. Regardless of the reason, once soil becomes compact, heavy concrete above the soil will sink and crack. It's a gravity thing!
While it is a very noticeable problem, with the right contractor, it can have a very simple solution.
Previously, sinking concrete was repaired by a technique called "mud jacking" that uses a thick slurry to fill in the gap underneath the sunken concrete. While effective, it is not the most efficient way to solve the problem, and adds more weight above the compacting soil.
Today, select contractors in Ontario are trained and certified to provide a better alternative to mud jacking. PolyLevel is a less intrusive, lighter weight solution that doesn't add more weight to the problem.

Comment: We have a cement patio out back of our house. It is divided into (9) slabs 68" x 63". We purchased the house 7 years ago and two of the slabs had sunk about 1 1/2". We had a company come in and they drilled 4 holes in each slab and pumped in a cement mixture to make it all level. That was 7 years ago and now they have sunken 2 1/2". Now we have a bunch of tripping hazzards. Help please.

Comment: We have an area at front of house and the sidewalk from driveway to back yard that have dropped several inches and water now flows towards our house foundation. Need to get a quote to lift these areas up. My husband wants to be home to meet with rep. He is usually home at 4:00 pm. Starting May 1st we will not be here on weekends. Is there any change of getting somebody out before April 28th. 4 pm or later.

Comment: Hi, I have a shed that sits on concrete slab the has be sunken on one side for years. The slab is 7x8. With a wood garden shed on top. Could this be leveled out with the shed in place? If so, how long does the foam typically last? would need to be raised 2.5" To level it out. Could you give me a general estimate of the cost of this. Thanks Ken
